Question:I am one of the only Chinese people in a mainly urdu-speaking community of brothers and sisters from India, Pakistan, and Iran. Is it obligatory upon me to gain knowledge at the hawza? And if so, how should I proceed given that I am the only child of my recently-widowed Christian mother and that I am planning on getting married in January 2019?

Ayatollah:Sistani

Answer: You can study islam online or where you are
For eg ehawza.com will send you hundreds of lectures.
You need to look after your mother and must not neglect her and must attend to her needs. This is important
Question:I had a question regarding my job. I'm still a student but for the last year I have been working as a Loss Prevention Officer. Sometimes I have to arrest or detain people who I find stealing or damaging the property in some manner. This usually involves some level of force but only to the extent that's necessary to get them to comply.
As an example, earlier this month a man tried to run past me with stolen items in his hands. Instead of trying to fight him I just tripped him and held him on the ground until the police arrived.

While I know that using force like in that example is permissible by the laws in Canada I was wondering if I am in any way crossing any Islamic laws?

Ayatollah:Sistani

Answer: There is no problem with what you are doing if it’s part of the law and it’s needed to uphold law and order. You must be careful not to use extra force than what is necessary
Question:Is it Haram to work as a security guard at a place that involved the selling and consumption of Alcohol (Note: your job doesn’t involve selling or serving the Alcohol yourself, rather it’s dealing with the safety of the people.

Ayatollah:Sistani

Answer: If it’s a place solely for the sake of alcohol then it’s not permissible since you will be facilitating the sale

If it’s a grocery store that sells other stuff for eg then it is permissible
Question:I wanted to know what’s the ruling on marrying someone outside where you’re from like an iraqi marrying a lebanese and how to go about that if the family isn’t allowing of it

Ayatollah:Sistani

Answer: Yes it’s permissible provided conditions (eg they’re Muslim etc) are found. It will have challenges but one way is to seek help of Ulema and Family relatives who can influence parents perhaps.

It’s important to note that invariably there might be cultural conflicts and both the husband and wife need to be patient and know what kind of issues may face them
Question:What is the earliest I can make ghusl and have it count as a Jumma Ghusl. Can I make it Thursday afternoon and not have to repeat the ghusl Friday morning for Jumma. I’m just using Jumma as an example.

Question:This year we have with the blessings of Allah successfully organised provision for another imambargah in our city. This is the first meaningful Muharram my children have observed in 12 years by the blessings invoked by our Holy Masomeen.
The other group however have spread falsehood and fatwas of sort than anyone who attends anything we do as an anjuman, will not be accepted as ibadah. We are not in competition with them but they think we are.
I am having trouble dealing with intense hatred towards them which I didn’t before. I feel like sending lanat on these people but i am holding back. What should I do?

Ayatollah:Khamenei

Answer: I recommend you exercise patience and continue serving Allah without worrying what people says. Disagreements and sometimes attacks are part of human nature sadly but the believers are those who focus on the bigger picture and want the reward from Allah (swt).

You should not say Lana on these people but rather pray for their guidance and forgiveness
Question:Does these dreams have any meaning. I have seen couple times dreams of Imaam Ali and Imaam Al-Ridha.

Ayatollah:Muqtada Sadr

Answer: The reality of dreams is commonly sought amongst human beings since it’s an experience most people go through sometime during their lives. What we understand is that in terms of interpretations, two types are commonly presented: the materialistic and spiritual.

The materialistic interpretation are commonly associated with the daily actions of human beings, i.e. whatever we may have experienced over the past few days becomes somehow embedded in our dreams. This is especially the case if before sleeping the mind is in reflection about activities that the body had undertaken during the day. Sometimes it’s also unfulfilled desires or even fears that influence dreams and their nature. Therefore many of such dreams are related to the past.

Those subscribing to the spiritual interpretation of dreams view them a result of possible delusions, inclinations, desires and imaginations. Such dreams relate to the future and people often seek interpretations. Not all such dreams have meaningful interpretations, as some are called (athgath ahlam or distressing dreams).

We know from the holy Quran that one way in which Prophets of Allah received revelation is through dreams (e.g. Prophet Ibrahim as). Indeed Prophet Yusuf (as) was given the ability by Allah (swt) to interpret the dreams. Therefore we don’t reject all dreams and dismiss them. From history books and narrations, we find that some dreams do have meaningful interpretations whilst others don’t. Another Quranic fact is that the soul departs from the body during sleep, thus some dreams are associated with the idea that the soul is not limited to time and space, as well as it belonging to the realm of malakoot (i.e. unseen realm).

The difficulty in interpreting dreams is that people often do so themselves, without seeking help of experienced and knowledgeable scholars. We know that some dreams refer to aspects in this world, for e.g. I was told by an alim that if a believer witnesses a dream of being given water to drink, it eludes to the idea that Allah ta’la is bestowing them with knowledge.
