Question:We currently have a guest living with us for a few weeks. The issue is this person has a habit of speaking bad about others even when the issue we're talking about has no relevance to the person. My husband spoke to the guest and I as well explained the evils of backbiting twice and once kindly told the guest I don't want to know the bad about their family members. While the guest reduced speaking bad about their family, instead started on backbiting about others who are not family!
What is my role here now? And how do I avoid the spiritual effects of this as I'm afraid I will become immune and be able to accept backbiting if this goes on any further.

Ayatollah:Sistani

Answer: Yes the impact of gheeba upon those who listen to it is harmful as well

You need to continue to object to the wrong as this is your duty. Speak gently to the person but firmly that you don’t want such statements or words in your house. You should not remain silent about it. Allah knows how hard it is for you especially as he’s a guest but He will help you and reward you. Keep reminding the person that they’re eating flesh of their brother and sister. That image should be on their minds when they’re about to backbite
Question:My wife asked me to upload her audio nauha's on YouTube. Only audio with some photos of the Tomb of Aimmah(as) and azadari pics.

Question:Someone asked me these questions: Suppose a woman is in her house and there are construction happening in her house. She doesnt know that workers come in and go, and unintentionally a man sees her without her veil. Is she entitled to the same gunah? For instance a student of mine told me she was sleeping and when she woke up, she saw her brother in law in front of her, she wasnt wearing her hijab.
She clearly didnt do that intentionally, sure she will do isteghfaar but whats the ruling on this?

Ayatollah:Sistani

If such a situation happens as described, she should ask for forgiveness as it was unintentional
Question:I had another question as well . If someone makes a promise to Allah (swt) and this promise is not a nazr (eg- I will do so and so , if so and so work of mine is done) ; just a general promise , eg- of reciting a particular day every day - ie, the person promised Allah (swt) that they will recite a particular dua everyday , but he doesn’t end up keeping the promise - he does not recite the dua- then is there any sort of Kaffara to be paid for this , and is the person liable for any punishment because he has not kept the promise ? If he continues not to keep the promise , is this a sin?

Ayatollah:Sistani

Answer: They should seek istighfar and make sure they don’t repeat it again
Question:On Tuesday night we put our cat to sleep. She was struggling to breathe from Sunday and the vet said she had water outside her lungs which would have to be drained. They said even if we got it drained it would come back in a few days and even if we kept getting it drained our cat would only live for a few weeks with poor quality of life. In hindsight we think of the possibilities we could’ve explored but at that point in time none of us could think straight. I asked a Sheikh to do istikhara whether we should put her down and he said it came as ‘it’s up to you’. When I asked his opinion he said don’t do it, there may be a solution. By Tuesday night our cat was panting which is really bad for cats. And looking back I feel like the vet was talking in code and if we had pushed harder maybe we could’ve saved our cat even if she had a poor quality of life. But we were so upset and panicked none of us could think straight, we believed the vet and we put our cat to sleep. The pain I can get over but the guilt is eating me away that we killed a creation of God.

Do you think we did the right thing?

Ayatollah:Sistani

Answer: Don’t worry. You have not done anything wrong
