Question:Quran say we are allowed to eat the food of Jews and Christians and we are also allowed to marry Jewish and Christian women. Why do I here some sheikhs prohibiting it?

Ayatollah:Sistani

Answer: Quran doesn’t say just eat their food and marry them. The permission came with condition that if they are true believers. So long as you trust and certain that they are the real followers of Musah and Issah. This remain a concern and that’s why scholars apply precaution in this matter
Question:I have been reading online that many famous duas recited by shias are in fact inauthentic even according to some of our scholars. what is the authenticity of duas like Kumayl, Tawassul, and Nudba to name a few and how can we be sure it has come from the Ahlul Bayt

Ayatollah:Sistani

Answer: Who said many of the duas we read are not authentic? Most of it authentic and reposted from either the holy prophet or Ahlul bait (as).
The above duas you mentioned are from Ahlul bait. The way to be sure of the authenticity of the duas is through our books of traditions such as Bihar al-Anwar, wasaail etc
Question:I was speaking to a Shai brother who mentioned that the chain of narrators for dua tawassul and Nudba were weak and that Dua Kumayl is found in a book by Al Tusi without any chain so we have no way to authenticate it came from Imam Ali. If I understand correctly you are saying that this is incorrect and these are actually from authentic sources with a reliable chain?

Ayatollah:Sistani

Answer: Dua tawassul: not all that we recite are traceable from our traditions. Some part such as the first line regarding the tawassul of prophet are traceable in our traditions. Other part are not necessary traceable but we recite due to the fact that Imams are true and legitimate successors of the prophet and whatever is given to prophet goes to Imam by the fact of succession.

Dua Kumayl: The earliest and most reliable source that contains the chains for Dua Kumayl is Al-Saduq’s Kamal Al-Deen 1/274-279

From Abdullah bin Mohammad bin Abdullah bin Mohammad bin Abdulwahab bin Nasr bin Abdulwahab Al-Qurashi, from Abi Bakr Mohammad bin Dawud bin Sulaiman Al-Nisapuri, from Musa bin Ishaaq Al-Ansari the judge of Ray, from Abu Nu’aym Dhirar bin Surd Al-Taymi, from Asim bin Humaid Al-Hannat, from Abi Hamza, from Abdulrahman bin Jundub Al-Fazzari, from Kumayl bin Ziyad.

Dua Nudba:
It is an important and authentic Dua. It's deep meaning penetrates to the depths of the heart. This is enough proof that these are not the words of an ordinary person. They are uttered by the personality who has connection with the celestial world (Aalam-e-Malakoot). Allamah Muhammad Baqir Majlisi (r.a.) has quoted this Dua in 'Zaad-ul-Maad' from Imam Jafar-e-Sadiq (a.s.). It is for the Imam of the time. And Muhammad bin Ali bin Abi Khura has quoted this dua from the book of Muhammad bin Husain bin Sufyan Bazoofari, from Imam-e-Asr. Apart from this, great Shia scholar Sayed Raziuddin bin Tawoos has mentioned it in his book, "Iqbal" on page no.295 to 299. Muhammad bin Jafar Mashadi Haeri has recorded it in book Al-Mazaan (Dua no.107). Qutb Rawandi in Al-Mazaar also records it and so does Allamah Majlisi in 'Zaad-ul-Maad' and 'Beeharul Anwaar'. Shaykh Abbas Qummi too has narrated it in his book, 'Mafatihul Janan'.
Question:I have read reports in Al Kafi that seem to point to Imam Hasan being a man that married and divorced many women during his life. Are these reports authentic? What is the mainstream Shia opinion on the marriages and divorces of Imam Hasan

Ayatollah:Sistani

Answer: The mainstream shia position is totally opposite what is mentioned above. The tradition above is not authentic. It’s often propagated by the enemies of Ahlul bait.
You will note that we as shia don’t claim all our books are authentic. Therefore some of the Hadith has to be scrutinised
Question:What is the mainstream Shia opinion on the cause of the prophets death. I have read that there are reports that he was poisoned by Aisha and Hafsa. Are these authentic?

Ayatollah:Sistani

Answer: The mainstream shia opinion of the cause of his death is a little bit of sickness. Regarding the poisoning is questionable. It has been authenticated
Question:A fellow Shia brother and I were having a conversation about the martyrdom of Bibi Fatima and wondering what are the Shia narrations for the incident of the burning door? are they in our most authentic books are did our early scholars believe the story to be authentic. would love some references I can pass along.

Ayatollah:Sistani

Answer: There are narrations from both shia and Sunni sources regarding the incident of attacking the house of bibi Fatima (as) :
Some shia sources:

1) Ibn Qawlawayh narrated in his book ‘Kamilul Ziyarat’ in a reliable hadith from Hammad Bin ‘Uthman from Imam Al-Sadiq (a.s.): On the night of the Prophet’s ascension, it was said to him (the Prophet): “Allah will test you in three things” and he started counting them… then he said “as for your daughter, she will be oppressed and deprived (of her right) and her right (to Fadak) that you will give to her will be seized from her and she will be hit while she is pregnant, and her house (and privacy of her family) will be entered without permission, then weakness and humiliation will be inflicted upon her and she will not be able to prevent it, and she will miscarry her baby from all the hits she will suffer, and she will die as a result of those hits … and the murder of Muhassan bin Ali will be the first crime that the killer (Umar) will be accountable, and then Qunfuth, so they will both attend (the judgement).” (Kamilul Ziyarat 232)

2) Yunus bin Ya’qub has narrated from Imam Al-Sadiq (a.s.) that the Imam said: O Yunus! My grandfather the Messenger of Allah said “Cursed is the one who will oppress my daughter Fatima after I die, and seize her right and kill her!” (Kanzul Fawa-id 1:149)

3) Al-Kulayni has narrated from Abi Basir from Imam Al-Sadiq (a.s.) who said: Amir Al-mumineen (i.e. Imam Ali) said: “Your miscarried babies whom you do not name before they die, will meet you on the Day of Judgement, and the baby will ask it’s father “Did you not give me a name?” Verily the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.s.) named Muhassan before he was to be born.” (Al-Kafi 6:18)

4) Muhammad bin Harun Al-Talakbari has narrated in a reliable narration from Abi Basir from Imam Al-Sadiq (a.s.) who said: Fatima was born on the twentieth day of Jamadil-akhira, forty-five years after the birth of the Prophet. And the cause of her death was that Qunfuth, the slave of the man (i.e. Abu Bakr), by the command of his master (Abu Bakr), hit her with his sword, from which she miscarried Muhassan, and she became severely ill from this event. And she did not allow anyone of those whom harmed her to enter her house. There were two of the companions of the Prophet (i.e. Umar and Abu Bakr) who asked Amir Al-mumineen (Imam Ali) to intercede on their behalf (and ask Fatima to allow them to enter). He (Imam Ali) asked her and she permitted (for them to enter). When they entered, they remarked “How are you O daughter of the Messenger of Allah?” She replied “I am well, praise to Allah”. Then she told them both, “Have you not heard the Prophet say “Fatima is a part of me, whosoever hurts her has in fact hurt me, and whoever hurts me has in fact hurt Allah”?” They both affirmed that. She said “I swear by Allah that you have both hurt me.” So they both left the house and she was displeased with them. (Dala-il Al-Imamah 45)

5) Sayyed Bin Tawoos has narrated in his book Al-Turaf on the authority of Imam Al-Kathim (a.s.) who said: When the Messenger of Allah was in the last stages of his life, he summoned people of the Ansar and told them “Verily Fatima’s door is my door and her house is my house, whosoever violates it has in fact violated the sanctity of Allah.” The Imam cried for a while and could not continue his words, then he said: “I swear by Allah, the sanctity of Allah has been violated! I swear by Allah, the sanctity of Allah has been violated! I swear by Allah, the sanctity of Allah has been violated! O my mother, blessings of Allah upon her!” (Bihar Al-Anwar 22:476).
Question:I was wondering if we have anything in Shia sources that describes the Zulfiqar? Did it resemble the popular depiction of it (Double-edged sword) or was it shaped like a traditional sword and the other design is a later renderation.

Ayatollah:Sistani

Answer: Yes the tradition is according to the popular description that it is of doubled edged sword.
