There is a one day activity at my daughters school where kids will interact with dogs like reading a book to them
The mission of ‘Reading to Dogs’ is to enhance the experience of learning, to bring comfort to children, to promote a lasting love for reading and to enrich lives of our canine volunteers
Is it allowed as per Islamic laws to play/touch dogs? Don’t intend to take a dog as a pet though, It’s just one of schools programme

There is no problem as such, provided you make the child understand that the dog is najis (impure), and so touching it with wet hands means Najasa is transferred. Similarly there are stricter rules re the saliva of the dog
