Do you have any information on how to begin a path of the spiritual wayfarer while alone in the west? I had found some texts written by Allamah Tabatabai but this seemed to be in regards to people with high level scholars at their disposal.

I recommend refraining from sins. If a person is indeed able to fully control all desires and block out Satan, they will reach high levels of spirituality. In addition to that, I would recommend doing some recommended acts in addition to the obligations. For example fasting when possible, doing the duas after each prayer.

Finally, I recommend seeking knowledge. The more Marifa we have of our religion, God, Quran, Prophet and Imams, our worship will carry more meaning and value.
