I am a revert, and I have been transitioning from a sunni to a shia for past 5 years now, Since last year I have been contemplating to go study at a hawza, but something would occur and my plan would be left unfinished…My parents are sunni ofcourse, and they aren’t agreeing to this, they are not even willing to talk about it. They are worried for my marriage… Anyhow, what should I do in this case? I will try to make them agree but if they don’t then can I rebel against their decision and go to a Hawza or should I drop my plan of studying islamic studies.
If you are independent financially and mature, mentally, you can make decisions without their consent. It is, however, not OK to disobey them in matters that are stemming from their genuine concern for you.
