I am a revert to islam and my parents are atheists and against Islam. When I first reverted I was sunni, and married a sunni man without my dad’s consent. An old man, I did not know about took the place of my dad and gave his consent instead. Now I am divorced but I am wondering, was I even married? Or this wasn’t considered as a marriage ? as I did not get my dad’s permission? If I get married again to a shia man, am I considered as a divorced and do not need consent of my dad, or do I need his consent this time?
Permission of the biological father (or paternal grandfather) is required for a woman who is a virgin unless they have withdrawn from involvement, which in the case of his anti-Islamic view may be the case.
