I figure it all depends on your intention. But I have heard from people that even if you intend to learn yoga for health, the longer you live in the subculture the more likely to either engage in the weird sexual aspects of it and even bits and pieces of the Hindu religion it derives from.

So I’m just wondering generally about how we approach other traditions with some valuable tools like meditation and yoga. Should we avoid it just in case, or as long as the intention is pure it’s always fine?

It is not haraam to meditate and exercise. If a person starts practicing and believing in something other than Islam than it becomes haraam. However I don’t see yoga as a Hindu thing. It’s become common practice in many cultures. Of course the rules of hijab would have to be practiced.
