I had a question regarding my job. I'm still a student but for the last year I have been working as a Loss Prevention Officer. Sometimes I have to arrest or detain people who I find stealing or damaging the property in some manner. This usually involves some level of force but only to the extent that's necessary to get them to comply.
As an example, earlier this month a man tried to run past me with stolen items in his hands. Instead of trying to fight him I just tripped him and held him on the ground until the police arrived.

While I know that using force like in that example is permissible by the laws in Canada I was wondering if I am in any way crossing any Islamic laws?
