The verse refers to angles according to our great commentators of the Quran.
I have got a question in regards to Surah 69:17, it states that “eight of them” shall hold the throne. In some Shi’a traditions, some say it is the four prophets from the past that will hold it -Noah, Abraham,Moses and Jesus. And the later generations- Prophet Muhammed, Imam Ali and his sons Hasan and Hussain. However I’m not convinced enough or certain enough for this to be true as the Quran says it’s specifically directing towards the angels. So how can I truly understand this verse and what is correct interpretation of this verse?

Yes as you mentioned some narrations exist as such
In any case if it’s angels it doesn’t take away status of Ahlulbayt at all nor change anything. Sometimes we go by narrations as there is no other way to be sure
