I have never been to hajj, nor do I know much about how it’s performed. I saw on Instagram that BBC posted about Saudi allowing women to perform it without a mahram with them, and then in the comments I saw Muslims complaining and saying they cannot do that. My question is, is that really a requirement for hajj? And if not then why are people upset about this?

It is not required for a woman going to Hajj to be accompanied by a Mahram if her safety [on her own] is assured.
