I recently watched a lecture online about Muslim transgender individuals but I’m still confused about the fiqh behind it. Are transgender people who identify or transition physically do a different gender able to pray by the people who share their new gender? If a person was born a man, then has surgery to become a female, comes to a group prayer and prays behind the other women, would that invalidate the women’s salah?

Gender reassignment is only valid if both the internal and external organs are changed according to Sayyid Sistani. Thus, if only the external is changed then the person maintains the sex of their birth. If such a change occurs as described above then seemingly the woman who used to be a man will apply the rules of being a woman
