I want to know why zinah is haram. What impact does it have on society that makes it haram? I need to know so I can defend it in-front of my non Muslim friends.

Zina is haraam because it is entering into a relationship without an agreement which guarantees the rights of both individuals.

A lady can get pregnant, who will guarantee her rights and the rights of her child? In a marriage the rights are declared and known. Marriage provides responsibilities and rights and duties. Zina doesn’t do any of that. It is just fulfilling a pleasure and then moving on. It means there is no commitment to the relationship.
