I was wonder if it would be permissible to invest in index funds/etfs. An index is basically a big basket of many stocks combined together into this one unit. Big ETFS that you may have heard of would be like The Dow Jones, S&P 500, etc.

But the problem is, these etfs may include one or two companies that produce their income based off of Haram items, like for example an alcohol company, even though majority of your gains may be coming from other stocks within the index, would the profit from even one Haram business make the buying of the index impermissible?
