In Germany we find many foods (especially bread) where pure alcohol is added to preserve them from molding or even in the aroma of bakery products.

Industrial alcohol is pure. When added to certain foods, if it is a very minute amount, that does not cause any intoxication it is fine. However, alcohol from wine or beer is not pure and cannot be consumed even if it’s a very small amount.
