In his book ‘the unschooled Prophe’ Murtadha Mutahhari wrote our Prophet pbuh & hf could not read or write, pre or post revelation. However, an esteemed scholar on you tube said our Prophet pbuh &hf could read and write and it would be absurd to think otherwise. Can you please tell me which is the correct belief regarding our unschooled Prophet according to our contemporary scholars?
The Prophet could read and write by evidence of the Qur’an. In Surah najm, Rahman and Alaq. The Prophet being illiterate is a Sunni opinion that some Shia have fallen victim to.
