Is it permissible to make a non monetary bet with a friend in non-gambling games and situations?

For example: betting who will get a higher grade on an exam, or who will be able to run a certain distance faster, or score more points in a sport, etc, with the "prize" being for example giving the person a possession you own if they win (a book, a toy, etc).
