Many people present the point that permission of husband is needed for a wife in "every aspect of her life" for example in leaving the house to perform any task and if she doesn't adhere to it then she will be punished in the hell fire (as what people have personally told me).
I understand that husbands are the head of the house but to what extent is the say of a husband lawful and in what all aspects of the couples life.

The husband must not be a dictator at home. As much as possible there should be joint decisions based on love and mutual respect. Yes in some occasions he will have final say, but if he is controlling his wife completely and does not listen to her then this marriage is not in line with Islamic ethics nor will it succeed
