My question is whether we as Shi’a believe Buddha was a prophet of Islam? I have heard that it is possible Buddha is one of 124,000 however have not been able to find a good answer.

This is possible but cannot be confirmed. Many of the Prophets we don’t have their names (perhaps about 100 or so).
