Question:If we have a khums date fixe can we change it to a later date in the same year?

Or is it possible that we take out the khums on the money that we have and take out the khums of the possessions on a later date in the same year because we can't determine the khums amount of the unused possessions and the time has come?

Ayatollah:Sistani

Answer: Yes, you can change the date by paying the khoms of the amount in hand on due date, and then pay the khoms of the gross amount on the new date.
Question:If the date of khums has come what does it mean. Does it mean that the money has to go on that day? Or the calculation has been done and niyyah should be made by that day even if you actually give it at a later date.

Supposing If you have done the calculations and made the niyyah but you couldn't take out money from the bank so you don't have it in your hand at that time and the person who you have to handover the money to take it to the Marjaa will travel after few months. So anyways the money will stay with you either in the bank or in your hand.
So is this acceptable?

Ayatollah:Sistani

Answer: It means that you have to pay it on that day, and if you are not able to hand it over on that day, then you should seek permission to separate it from the remaining 80%, even by transferring it to another account, or to a sub account, so that you can use the rest of the money.

Answer: If it is not possible for you to fast and stay at home that day, then you can travel 22 km's away from your town/ city, before fajr, stay there till fajr (dawn) starts, eat or drink something, then return back home, and make up this day later.
Question:I see Iran celebrating a chess player. When did chess become halal to play?

Ayatollah:Sistani

Answer: According to Sayed Khomaini fatwa, if the subject of a thing has changed from haram to halal, then it becomes halal. Hence, if the chess has changed from being a gambling game to a mental game, it becomes halal.
The same principal is applied by Sayed Sistani.
