Question:Can a mature virgin girl marry against her fathers consent? Let's assume the boy is perfectly fit to marry according to Islam with good qualities? Can she still marry him and go against her father's will? Or Does she need her father's permission?

Ayatollah:Sistani

Answer: If he asked for marriage, and the father refused, with no justification, then she can. Otherwise, no.
Question:I would like to know how I must react if someone is threating and torturing me because he/she is hating muslims and wants to kill me because of it and is telling me that she/he wants to listen of me that I am not muslim and I am and then become free. What must I do in this situation? And if I dont tell them what they want to hear. Am I dying as a martyr?

Ayatollah:N/A

Answer: You can tell them that you are not Muslim.
No need to loose your life.
Question:Can I still pray a Nafila prayer/recommended prayer like salat ul Layl and it will still be accepted by me, although I still have many prayers from the past years to make up for?

Ayatollah:N/A

Answer: Yes, you can. However, it is better that you make up your past prayers.
Question:A young person has never had an income before, so she was always dependent on her parents. Now she is working and will be earning monthly. The parents have never taken out khums before and do not have an intention to, as they do not believe in its need or requirement. For the youth who understands khums as being wajib, how can she start to calculate her own khums owed, to at least make her personal belongings tahir/pure? The youth has a car, clothing and personal items that were all given by the parents, or through gifted money. Should she begin by listing all her currently owned items and their value, then calculating one-fifth of that? And what about items in the past that have already been donated or thrown away, like old clothing or books? How can the youth try to make-up past due khums to the best of her ability?

Ayatollah:Sistani

Answer: She does not need to pay khoms for the items she bought and used in the same year, except if she used them once, and decided that she will not use them again any more in the same year of purchase.
She needs to pay the khoms of such items, if they have market value, as used stuff.
If she do not remember that she went across such situation, she does not need to bother.
Now, since she started work, the day she started to work becomes her khoms day. Hence, she needs to see her saving (balance) throughout the year, on the same day annually, and pay its khoms.
Question:I been thinking about this for a long time and not sure if my father did the right thing. My father married a foreign women and converted her before marriage. She now has a child from my father however they did not get along and my father convinced her to leave the child and go back to her country and secretly withdrew her marriage visa. He convinced her because he believes she wasn’t being a sincere Muslim and didn’t want his child raised with a Buddhist family. He wants the child to be raised by him and become a Muslim but she still calls begging for her child. My father will never give up the child. Is he doing the wrong thing from separating a mother from her baby even if she’s not a practicing Muslim?

Ayatollah:Sistani

Answer: He should allow her to see the child from time to time, as she is still his mother.
Question:I want to request you please suggest me any dua for my sister marriage proposal. People come to see her but nothing good happens. My parents are old and very worried about her. She is not doing any job. People normally demand job. What do we do?

Ayatollah:Sistani

Answer: Write with rose and saffron water on her dress she uses regularly-while you are on wodou:
(من كل شيء خلقنا زوجين لعلكم تذكرون: اللهم بحقّ قولك هذا، وبحقّ محمّد صلى الله عليه وآله أن ترزق هذه المرأة زوجاً موافقاً غير مخالف بحقّ محمّد وآله الطاهرين).
Question:In a long distance marriage ( where communication is through the phone), is the husband allowed to pleasure his wife by telling her what to do to her private parts, causing stimulation, or does that still fall under the masturbation category?
Taking into considerations that they won’t be meeting any time soon, and they are both in need of sexual activity.

Ayatollah:Sistani

Answer: This is haram.
Question:I work in hotel with hindu staff and all work like cooking, plate washing, all work is with hindus. In that situation, is it permissible to perform my work or not?

Ayatollah:Sistani

Answer: No problem, provided that you do not wash alcohol drinking glasses
Question:My question is regarding a Hadith by Imam al-Ridha (as) where he says that Yazid was playing chess and drinking alcohol and when he had drunk alcohol he would pour the remains into a basin below the chess table that had the head of Imam Hussain (as) inside it
I wanted to know the authenticity of this Hadith.

Ayatollah:Sistani

Answer: This Hadeeth is narrated by acceptable people.
I found it in Behar Al-Anwar, who refers it to a book written by Sheikh Sadooq.
From my point of view, it is not acceptable, because it makes the sanctity of drinking beer and playing chess that Yazeed did what is mentioned in the hadeeth, which makes no sense. Beer is forbidden because it is intoxicating, not because Yazeed poured it on the holy head, and chess is forbidden because there are texts in its sanctity, not because Yazeed played it that day.
Question:Can you please let me know who reported this Hadith from the Prophet and if it’s authentic.

The Holy Prophet (S) has stated,
“A person who possesses a sitar, on the day of Qiyāma will be raised with a black face. His hands will be holding a sitar of fire. Seventy thousand angels with maces of fire will be hitting him on the face and the head. The singer will arise from his grave, blind, deaf and dumb. The adulterer will be similarly raised. The player of flute will also be made to rise in this way as will be the drum player.”

Mustadrak al-Wasa il, volume 13, page 219, Hadith 15175

And also Hadith 15176

Ayatollah:N/A

Answer: No. 15175 is taken from a Persian book, which was written in the 6th century after hijjra. I could not find the book to check the hadeeth.
No. 15176 is taken from a book called جامع الأخبار. In this book, there are no names given for reporters, and the book is written in the 7th century, after hijjra.
