A lot of parents are so busy with work to make money and don’t pay attention to their children and what they do. As I do not work I see many things that is not good for their hereafter, I cannot guide these many children but the influence is really overwhelming. I want to move from my city to make another move eventually out of western world to not lose them to shaytan for I do not have family that follow. As for my husband he has but always busy. Same thing- work both leave kids. Please help.

Ayatollah:Fadlallah

Answer:
Tarbiyya begins in the beginning of childhood.
Parents are role models and you have to start with yourself.
They will learn from you through actions.
Also friends are important.
Creating spiritual love in the house helps too.
Please recite Quran 25:74 as many times to help.
Question:I had a question on something I’ve been curious about. I know in Islamic jurisprudence, fathers are responsible for providing for children. What happens if there is a divorce? Does the woman have any rights to her kids? I’m just curious as I’ve never heard it talked about (and in reality most children end up with the mom). Part of my curiosity is because the Quran so beautifully talks about reuniting Moses (pbuh) with his mother to cool her grief.

Ayatollah:Sistani

Answer:
In Islamic law, after divorce the mother has the right to look after the children until they’re seven years of age. In these years the father has to provide for the needs of the children. After seven, he has the right of the children. There are some exceptions stipulated in opinions of scholars.
Question:Is it allowed for me to have a preferred surname to go by? I'm aware it's haram for me to change my surname to that of my (step) father from that of my biological father but was wondering, while officially in places like uni and work my biological name would be used, could I request for my preferred name to be used casually?

Ayatollah:Sistani

Answer: As long as this preferred surname does not bring you degradation or is that related to enemies of Islam there is no problem
Question:Is diyah money required when the child died unintentionally because of mother being ill and the cause of death was due to medicines.

Ayatollah:Sistani

Did the mother’s illness lead to the death? How were the medicines involved?

Question:I have three questions pertaining to Ehram.
First: Are we allowed to use unscented halal deodorant while in Ehram? Can we use baking soda/corn starch on our body to stay dry.
Second: Can we use mint flavored toothpaste while in Ehram?
Third: Is it true that while in Ehram we are not permitted to use any clothing like sheets, towels etc that are yellow in color?
Also, Alhamdulillah we are going for Hajj this year. We have been taking out Khums every year for the past several years. However in early stages of his career my husband did not bring Khums out for various reasons one of them being that he was not fully aware about it and now looking back since he was not earning enough and had family responsibilities and loans he was mostly short of cash. That was for 6-8 years. Now how do we figure out how much khums he would have had to take out during those years. We have taken an estimated number but are not sure if it is ok. Will you please help us with this.
InshaAllah I will be praying for your son at Hajj. May Allah, for the sake of His Holy Masumeen, grant him a quick and complete recovery and bless him with a happy and healthy long life. Ameen!

Ayatollah:Sistani

Answer:
1) Any deodorant is not permissible whilst in ehram unless it’s for medical reasons (one that is needed to avoid excessive harm)
2) Mint toothpaste is allowed but you should avoid smelling it as much as possible
3) Yellow sheets etc in ehram is ok

For khums, try to go back to bank statements on those years and estimate to the best of your ability, asking Allah for help and forgiveness
Question:I am muslim but I got a lot of questions about raising children with a woman or a man who doesn’t follow or who doesn’t have the same faith? For example a shia muslim who married a sunni woman, having children a shia man want to bring the chidren to his side, but she doesn’t want. What is going to happen in that case?

Ayatollah:—-

Answer: Such marriages are challenging as both husband and wife need to be understanding and have mutual respect before marriage regarding these sensitive issues.
Otherwise problems will arise.
If these conflicts do arise, there has to be an agreement with negotiation on exactly how to proceed.
This will involve some degree of compromise.
Question:If I make mistake in the makhraj of the zikr of the namaz, my salat is still ok? Or its invalid?
Do I have to re do it again?

Ayatollah:Sistani

Answer: It depends on which act of salah and whether it was intentional or not.
For eg any mistake in the Takbeer renders the salah batil.
