Question:I am a business partner in a franchise here in the United States. It is a fast food restaurant. Part of the menu contains pork items which I know is haraam to sell. However, as a whole all partners have decided that we will not touch any of the money that we make from the pork sales. Is my rozi considered halal if I am not taking any money from the pork sales? As a part of a franchise it is mandatory to include pork items or else I would take them off the menu. Your help is much appreciated.

Ayatollah:Sistani

Answer: Selling pork to anyone is not permissible and haram. This is not affected if the money is separated or not. However if there is no other way, then permission can be sought from your marjie or representative to look at your case individually.
Question:Given your background in pharmacy I thought you may be well placed to answer the question about whether the nasal flu vaccine is suitable for Muslims. As a practicing Nurse I always get asked from various perspectives and I feel there is confusion in our community with regards to the following:
a) We are not "eating" it and the vaccine replicates in the nose
b) hHow can we form herd immunity and protect those that can't have it
c) Does the gelatine go through chemical changes making it pure no longer najis

I have a 5 year old who has never had the vaccine and I never felt that he was a risk to others because I always felt that I didn't want to put something najis into his body despite being a nurse and knowing the benefits of the flu vaccine and Alhamdulillah we have managed to stay well over the winter months without it. But I do get asked a lot and I wish I had a better answer!

Ayatollah:N/A

Answer: Yes I’m aware of this re ruling. Scholars like Ayatullah Sistani leave it to the people themselves to make decision on whether complete transformations as taken place of the gelatine

I have done my research personally on this and I’m satisfied that indeed transformation does take place. But it’s a personal decision.
Question:If verses of the Quran can be abrogated in meaning/ruling, then of what use are the abrogated verses? What meaning do those verses have if their rulings were overruled? I ask this especially because the Quran is meant to be a universal Book for all of mankind, and all of its verses possess some wisdom, and if the verses were overruled then they may lose meaning. Is this a correct understanding?

Ayatollah:Makarem Shirazi

Answer: Very few verses were actually abrogated
The reason is contextual, some events during the 23 years went through a change and hence needed new ruling. For eg, Allah commanded the Muslims to give sadaqa when they came to ask the Prophet private questions. Only Imam Ali did, and hence the verse was abrogated to allow them to ask without Sadaqa

The Quran has many levels of understanding and complexities as it’s the word of God, and His wisdom entails that a very few is abrogated. Also it highlights the need of the Prophet and Ahlulbayt to actually tell us which verses were abrogated, since amongst different schools disagreement exists in this regard
Question:I don’t know exactly what I have to say while doing my wudu before prayers (i’m not an arabic speaker yet). Is my wudu still valid if I don’t say nothing while doing it ?
Also do you have a book or websites where I could learn it to properly to it?

Ayatollah:N/A

Answer: You don’t need to say anything whilst doing Wudu. It’s not obligatory to say anything. It’s recommended to remember Allah and recite Duas

This video shows you how to perform Wudu

Question:I cheated on my husband. I regret it so much. I have been crying for (removed) days about it I just feel the guilt so much within me. I did pray to Allah for forgiveness but I still feel this extreme huge guilt and I feel like an extreme bad person

Ayatollah:N/A

Answer: What you have done is a major sin and you must seek genuine repentance from Allah (swt). If you are sincere in being remorseful and you make a commitment not to do it again He will forgive you.
Don’t despair from His mercy. He forgives all sins. We all do mistakes but as long as we acknowledge we have and we want to correct it then He will help us. Give charity as much as you can and do good deeds. Make sure you keep pushing Satan away since he will be back to tempt you again
Question:My aunty, my uncle's wife is so ill. Both her kidneys have been damaged and she is admitted to the hospital. We do live with each other and so I have to do a lot of work like to cook meals of all the times and to go to the hospital to spend nights with her. There are other people as well in the house but I don't know how all the works are put on me. I have to give a competitive exam in december and I dont have time to study and this is my last oppotunity to pass the exam otherwise I have to leave that field and all money of my parents will be wasted, but in this situatin where I have to do a lot of house hold work, I am unable to study. Shaykh please suggest me some ways to come out of this situation. I have just 2 months left for my preparation for exams.

Ayatollah:N/A

Answer: In addition to Duas, you should be clear and have an open conversation with your aunt and other family members. They need to understand the importance of your exam and your future
Have reliance on Allah and be positive and patient. Life is full of challenges and opportunities and this is one of yours
Question:I want to know what is the status of palmistry, horoscope and astrology in Shia Islam. What have the holy Imams said about this subject? Can you send me a book or article which explains with sayings of Imam, what is the ruling behind palmistry and horoscope and astrology? Please send me link if you know any.

Question:I am seeking a clarification. According to fiqh, it is essential to ensure that during ablution water reaches the skin. Can you please confirm what this means?
Usually after washing face with soap, after sometime, there forms a layer of oil on skin. Should this oil be considered a barrier in water reaching skin or is it ok to consider this oil as part of skin thus water can be poured and spread over face or hand to meet conditions of ablution.

Please confirm

Ayatollah:Sistani

Answer: The oil you described after washing with soap is fine and will not sop water getting to the skin
Question:I attended a majlis one of the nights of Ashurah, and I was deeply touched by the story and what I had heard. I am a bit familiar with the basic Shia aqaid, and Alhamdulilah I did recently take the step to become Shia as I was originally a Sunni. My question is should we view the tragedy of Karbala moreso as a praise of the Ahlul Bayt or should we view it in terms of its broader messages (such as justice and imaan and oppression) without so much focus on the Ahlul Bayt? My understanding of Karbala was not with a focus on the ahlul bayt, but of the universal ideas of divine justice and truth. Also how much should we use the wasila of the Ahlul Bayt in dua?

Ayatollah:Sistani

Answer: May Allah (swt) bless you for discovering and following the truth
We should remember Ashura both in terms of the values and universal lessons but also because God commands us to love and follow Ahlulbayt in the Quran. Both are important

As for seeking intercession, again the Quran instructs this (5:35) so it is totally fine and islamically encouraged so use it as much as you can
