Question:I saw a video clip by where you mention that it is permitted to do sajdah on the back of your hand. Is it applicable only if the sajdagah/mohr breaks or at other times when it is not available?

Ayatollah:Sistani

Answer: It’s only permissible when you don’t have anything to pray on that is allowed during salah, for eg when Turbah is removed or you lose it during salah.

Under normal circumstances you’re not permitted to use back of hand
Question:I have a question regarding the following ruling:

“The fluid which a woman feels during foreplay or lustful thinking but it is not much to spread to other parts, is clean. Ghusl does not become obligatory in this case and it does not make wudhu void either but if there is much fluid and is called ejaculation and the fluid spreads to the underwear and this normally takes place during orgasm and full satisfaction, the fluid is najis (impure) and in this case ghusl becomes obligatory. In fact, if emission takes place without orgasm, the necessary precaution is that it is najis and it causes janabah.
Hence, if a woman enters the state of janabah intentionally with the details mentioned above, both Qadha and kaffara become obligatory on her. The obligatory precaution is that she should restrain from eating and drinking for the rest of the day”

I find it very difficult to perform ghusl everytime fluid discharged (due to lustful thoughts) reaches the underwear, as even if it is a very small amount it eventually reaches the underwear. This means I have to perform ghusl around 3 times everyday.

From some other sources I have read that ghusl is only required when an orgasm occurs, however this is different to what is stated on Sistani.org (shown above).

Please could you provide some clarification to the circumstances in which female ghusl is required, as this is very confusing and difficult to manage.

Ayatollah:Sistani

Answer: If you find that there is common discharge due to excitement but without signs of orgasm then you can follow another marjie on this issue and you would not need to do ghusl, except if it’s actual ejaculation with signs of orgasm.

Question:1. Was Imam Ali a.s. praying his nafilah prayer when he was struck or the fard prayer?
2. Where were Imam Hasan and Imam Husein and Hazrat Abbas present in the mosque during that time when Imam Ali was struck?

Ayatollah:Sistani

Answer: It’s very likely that Imam was praying his nafila, although it’s difficult to be sure as reports vary.
Imam Hasan was there but it’s likely that Imam Hussain was outside kufa for a task. We are not told whether Abbas was there or not in historical accounts

Question:Yesterday I found pornography on my 14 year old daughters phone. How should I go about handling this issue? At her age, I never would have thought to look at such images

Ayatollah:Sistani

Answer: I understand this must be difficult for you as a parent.

You must explain calmly the massive problems of this and the devastating impact of it on heath and wellbeing. Watch TEd talks and Islamic talks on this together. Take her to a cemetery and explain to her death and afterlife. She needs to understand how negative it is. Be patient and don’t lose hope. You can watch this clip too

Question:I came across a Hadith from Imam Ali (as) from Al-Kafi and I have been pondering about this hadith for quite a while. It says that Imam Ali have said the one should not marry black people because they are creatures of deformity. As a muslim I know that racism in Islam is totally forbidden, and treating people differently based on the color of their skin is a major sin. One example of this is the famous hadith from our beloved Prophet saying that a white person has no superiority over a black man and vice versa. I am now questioning this hadith from Imam Ali (as). Is the hadith really true? If it is, could it then have an underlying explanation? I would really like to know how one of Allah best creation could have said something like this, especially as a muslim. Also considering Al-Kafi being one of the shias most authentic and reliable hadith collections. I am attaching the hadith: علي بن إبراهيم، عن هارون بن مسلم، عن مسعدة بن زياد، عن أبي عبد الله (عليه السلام) قال: قال أمير المؤمنين (عليه السلام): إياكم ونكاح الزنج فإنه خلق مشوه

Ayatollah:N/A

Answer: 1. Not every Hadith in Kafi is authentic and quite a few are weak
2. If we were to accept this, the Imam is referring to a particular tribe at that time and not anyone generally with black complexion as the Imams married fairly darker ladies and had black companions
Question:Are there any situations were taqyyiah is haram?

Ayatollah:Sistani
