Question:Just curious, to what degree is it actually permissible for parents to beat their kids in Islam. And if you could elaborate on when it is too much to where it becomes abuse instead of disciplining. Because I feel that alot of muslims have had it as norm to beat kids alot of times to the point where they get wounded for discipline but without any restrictions.

Ayatollah:N/A

Answer: We are not allowed to beat our Kids under any circumstance. Let alone causing the children some injuries and wounds. Beating them will tend to make them stubborn if we don’t take care. The best way to discipline your children is to deny them certain things they like the most if they fail to live up to certain expectation. This could be denying them access to their game, phone for sometime etc
Question:I have a question regarding the Hadeeth of Haqeqa. Do you have any books I can read to dissect this hadeeth. Is there such book?

Ayatollah:Sistani

Answer: It’s indeed a very interesting conversation between Kumayl and Imam Ali (as). I have references in Arabic and not in any other languages.

Kindly allow me to find out from my colleagues if there is any English reference (s) on this.
Question:How to guide your children from the shaytan ages 14,boy 15 girl from influential friends that they make? A lot of parents are so busy with work to make money and don’t pay attention to their children and what they do. As I do not work, I see many things that is not good for their hereafter. I cannot guide these many children but the influence is really overwhelming. I want to move from my city to make another move eventually out of western world to not lose them to shaytan for I do not have family that follow. As for my husband he has but always busy same thing work both leave kids. Please help

Ayatollah:Fadlallah

Answer: Indeed one is the most important act of worship is upbringing of our children. Children are trusts from Allah and parents will be questioned on how they raised their children.
Both father and mother are equally responsible.
Consider the following points:
1. Let your children see in you what you want to see in them
2. Show priority to their madrassah studies
3. You and your husband should invest your time in teaching them Islamic values at home.
4. Always take them to Islamic programs
5. If you feel the environment is harmful, there is no harm in moving to more suitable and convenient environment for their upbringing

Ayatollah:Fadlallah

Can you please help me out?

Ayatollah:Sistani

Answer: My humble advise to you will be to consider the following points:

1. Try as much as you can stop sins against Allah. This include disobedience to parents
2. Try to sleep with wudhu
3. Put an alarm and if an alarm doesn’t work

Question:I got a thread from the mosque which was kept on hazrat abbas alaam during Muharram. Now since I am wearing it I am married in a sunni family, I am being told to take it off as that is shirk and Islam does not permit this. Could you advise me on this please.

Ayatollah:Sistani

Answer: This is definitely not shirk. It’s seeking blessings of Allah through Hazrat Abbas’s loyalty and sincerity. Kindly explain to them Allah is the main source of blessings and thread is connected with someone who is highly blessed by Allah. Hence, you have it with you.
If they insist and you realize it’s causing fitna in the marriage, there is nothing wrong in removing it and put it either in your wallet, purse, hand bag, pocket etc

Question:I am a newly graduated training professional in the medical field, and am currently working in a hospital and when on wards and seeing patients, it is strictly required to roll our sleeves up to the elbow for ‘infection control’. As a female Muslim, I observe the hijab and was wondering whether this would be permissible.
And if not, does this mean a female Muslim can not pursue a career in the medical field (this includes doctors, pharmacists, nurses etc)

Ayatollah:Sistani

Answer: Female Muslims are allowed to pursue medical fields. However, Islamic etiquettes must be upheld at all times during services or works.

Your situation: this is definitely not permissible under normal circumstance. Try to avoid it as much as possible. However, there is no harm in doing it if it’s completely beyond your control and it’s per the medical practice country wide.
