Question:I was wondering if there is an alternative to these sauces (soy, oyster and fish), as most of these sauces contain alcohol. Some say alcohol is produced when the product is being processed. Is that allowed?

Ayatollah:Sistani

Answer: If the alcohol is little and naturally produced during production such that it can be said it is normal, not intoxicating then there is non problem in consuming this product. It would not make a person intoxicated.
Question:How much percent vanilla extract is allowed in food such as frosting, cookies etc?
Also, is soy sauce allowed? many soy sauces have quite high amount of alcohol.

Ayatollah:Sistani

Answer: If the cookies etc contain more than 2% alcohol then it is haraam to consume otherwise it is ok. As for soy sauce, since the alcohol is naturally produced on its own during the process and is not added, it is ok to consume
Question:Every month, couple days prior to haydh there is a very light brown discharge. I am not sure if this is slight istehadha and do i need to do wudhoo before every prayer?
Sometimes the discharge is continuous even during wudhoo time. Now that we have shabe barat, I don't know how to keep up with wudhoo? And after amals, I'm still in wudhoo, but discharge continues, do I need to make new wudhoo for namaze shab, quran etc?

Ayatollah:Sistani

Answer: Prior to haydh, the light brown discharge, if it has no continuity meaning it comes and goes, it will be considered istihadha and you have to follow the relevant rules for that in regards to wudhu and namaz etc.

However if it has continuity such as is similar during haydh, then it will be haydh.

During istihadha, there are three types, qaleel, mutawassit, Kathir.

If your istihadha is qaleel meaning little, then prior to namaz, you need to change your undergarments or sanitary pads etc if they have gotten dirty and do wudhu.
Question:I'm on first stage of menopause and a chronic sinus patient. I'm bleeding past 4 weeks sometimes spotting sometimes too much. It's not constant that I'm bleeding all the time but twice a day I bleed more. My doctors are saying maybe pre menopause system. I cannot do wudhoo after every mustahab salaat and I pray a lot. The wajib namaaz I can do the wudhoo before each namaaz but mustahabs that would be too much for me to take. So is there any alternative. I get triggers of sinusitis often and have to be careful but mustahab salaats are important to me too like nawafila, tahajjud and other salaats too. Please guide me.

Ayatollah:Sistani

Answer: According to Ayatollah Sistani, the age for menopause is 60 years lunar calendar (58 years Gregorian). Are you seeing istihadha bleeding? If you are seeing istihadha for menopause then is your age over 58? Discussion of menopause in medicine is different from that of ahkam. As per fiqh, if your age is not of menopause, then the ruling on bleeding will depend on the conditions of the blood.

However if your bleeding is continuous for at least 3 days and maximum 10 days and for the first three, blood is present for 24 hours with not even 10 mins of being paak (even if the blood is present inside the vagina and not necessary for it to come out continuously it will be enough for haydh), then this will be haydh and the month after as well you can have haydh.

However if it is not as above bleeding will be istihadha. The spotting would be istihadha qaleela. As for the heavy bleeding that happens twice, for example it happens at 10:00 in the morning and 5:00 in the evening. Then for zuhr and asr you'll have to do a ghusl and for maghrib and Isha you'll have to do another ghusl.

When the bleeding is not constant, it will be ruled as istihadha bleeding. Wudhu if is detrimental to your health or is possibly detrimental, you can do tayammum instead of wudhu. For tayammum, you can use even a stone and not necessary for it to be dusty

Question:I have a pertaining question to any sort of Ghusl that we do (wajib). What is the ruling on if your body parts such as hands legs or fingers touches the side areas such as walls or glass door during ghusl? Is ghusl still valid or we need to purify those walls with water too? As those places are already wet because of water reaching there prior we started our ghusl.

The reason for the question is because we are living in west and also I dont believe we have to purify the inner area in the washroom but your assistance or clarification can help me.

Ayatollah:Sistani

Answer: Ghusl is valid. No need to purify the walls
