Question:I've missed my two cycles and now I'm having light spotings. I'm not sure whether it should be considered hayd or istihada. The spotings does reach to the pad but it stops after few drops. This has been happening for few days. Can I pray with just doing wudhu or do I have to perform ghusl?

Ayatollah:Sistani

Answer: One of the conditions for Haydh is that there has to be continuity i.e blood has to be present in the inside such that one cannot say they have been clean for even 10 mins. Since your blood flow as you say is coming and going, it is not Haydh and hence is istihadha.

The type of istihadha depends on blood flow. If you are to put a piece of cotton to check, does the blood stay at the top of the cotton. If it does then it's istihadha qaleel and for this, whenever you are clean/pak, change your undergarments (if they have become najis), do wudhu and pray.
Question:Can you please advise the ruling on ghusl hayd. Indeed the way is similar as other ghusl but do we have to do wudhu before the ghusl as I read that in tawzeeh ul masail. Is the wudhu compulsary to take before ghusl or just mustahab?

Ayatollah:Sistani

Answer: It is not wajib. You can do wudhu before or after ghusl. It makes no difference.
Question:What is a female supposed to do if she finds a little sign of mascara after ghusl (could be like minute) when she rubs the eye? The ghusl taken before becomes void or its ok to disregard it?

Ayatollah:Sistani

Answer: If you see the mascara in your eyes after ghusl and it is a barrier to water reaching that area, that is, it has substance and is not just colour, then just clean that area and wash it (for ghusl) and then wash the body again.
Question:Is it necessary for a women’s private part to be shaved completely or is little hair allowed?

Ayatollah:Sistani

Answer: It is mustahab to shave the pubic hair and it is makrooh for it to remain. It is not haraam. Hence if a bit remains there is no problem.
Question:I go to university twice a week and the university is 3 hours far away from my house. I have to miss namaz fajr because of train sometimes, there is no space to pray there.
Namaz zuhr & asr I pray there. My question is, do i have to do qasr for namaz fajr, zuhr and asr? Or qadha for fajr and pray zuhr and asr regularly

Ayatollah:Sistani

Answer: Pray your zuhr and asr as normal. As for your fajr namaz, don't do qadha if it and try to pray it in whatever manner you can even if it be while standing and with gestures. And try and maintain the qibla to whatever extent possible.
Question:What is the method of Ghusl Jummah? Niyat and everything?

Ayatollah:Sistani

Answer: Ghusl e Jumma is like other ghusls with no difference. Therefore first the head and neck has to be washed, then the right side then the left. It's time is before Namaz e Zuhr. The closer it is to dhuhr, the greater the reward. After Namaz e dhuhr, ghusl can be done as well with the intention of Ma fi al- dhimma (to fulfill whatever one's legal obligation happens to be). The ghusl can be done on a Saturday as well with the intention of qadha.

In regards to niyyat, during wudhu, ghusl, namaz the niyyat is just that you know what you are doing. It it not necessary to say it. Hence if I were to be asked you what am I doing, I would for example say wudhu or ghusl which shows I had the intention of wudhu and started this action. This is enough for the start of an action. That is I know what I'm doing. It is not necessary to say the niyyat in words such as I'm doing so and so ghusl. As long as I know what I'm doing, it's enough.
Question:My husband wants to bring home his cousin sister’s, 19 year old daughter to stay at our house for 5-6 years for her studies. I am not comfortable with this as I think it may distrupt our couple life among other things. Am I obligated in Islam to do so?

Ayatollah:Sistani

Answer: If this is your husband's house, you can't say no. It's best if you stay away from the private matters of your husband's cousin's daughter so that she stays away from yours. Let there be a separate space for her where she can do her own work and both of you stay away from each others private matters. From the start set the boundaries so that problems do not arise.
Question:What is one supposed to do when the people around them are making fun of someone else? Especially in the case when you cannot ruin your relationship with the said person who is making fun of others and show disrespect to them? Is being quiet in this situation enough?

Ayatollah:Sistani

Answer: One of our responsibilities is Amr bil Ma'roof and Nahi az Munkar. In the event you saying anything will not have any effect of the opposite person will not listen, then try and leave the gathering and if that's not possible either, you can stay.
Question:Wearing makeup in general is haraam, but is a woman allowed to wear very very light face makeup just to cover up some bad acne or dark spots that are embarrassing for her, and what about when shes going to places like the haram or the Ahlulbayt in Karbala and najaf, is it okay to do so over there?

Ayatollah:Sistani

Answer: Salam alaikum. Anything that is counted as zeenat (beautification) and can be seen by others should be hidden from non mahrams and this is regardless of where a person is, whether in their hometown or in the Haram of the Ahlulbayt (as).
As for applying very light make up such that it cannot be seen by anyone and no one can recognize the person has applied something on, there is no problem.
Question:Recently I had one of my friends say to me that she heard from someone else, who she wont state the name, that I said I dont like her and now shes upset with me and believes them. Although I am 110% sure I never said a thing like that, even about anyone and I'm not sure what to do in positions like this. I told her I didn't but she doesn't believe me, so what am I supposed to do now to try and be the best Muslim in this situation?

Ayatollah:Sistani

Answer: You've told her and she doesn't believe you. She has free will in what she thinks and no one can change that. There is no specific responsibility because she is not family where sile rahm becomes wajib. Make sure you don't do any wrong doing towards her
